Obituary for June T. Neal

Services for June T. Neal, age 78 of Grinnell, are pending at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell.

June Trammel Neal, born on June 5, 1940 a native of Dalton Georgia and transplant to south Louisiana, made the journey to his heavenly home on Sunday, August 5, 2018 in the company of his loving family. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Sherry Neal, brother Jerry Neal of Alexandria, LA., daughters: Linda Conrad, Karen Neal, Pam Alford (Chuck), Victoria Hatton (Paul), Sarah Fruge (John), grandchildren: Joshua (Janelle), Jason (Inez), Eddie, Justin, Joseph (Emma), Jenna, Dustin (Courtney) , Felicity (Andy), Heather, Eli and Lucy, great-grandchildren: Sirena. June was preceded in death by his parents Jessie Cape and Helen Bernice Rowland Neal.

June “Trouble” Neal a committed husband, loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather enjoyed many wonderful years in life. June, enlisted in the Air Force not long after high school and found the love of his life while stationed in California. After an honorary discharge from the Air Force, June spent many years as a steel worker at Kaiser Steel in Fontana, CA. When Kaiser closed their plant, June moved most of his girls back to his hometown in Denham Springs, LA close to his parents. June enjoyed the occasional fishing trip with his girls but mostly enjoyed taking them to their once a year trip to Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm in Anaheim, CA. June “GrandPaw”, “PawPaw” loved sharing his spiced tea with the grandchildren along with playing some video games. June loved and spent many years of his life carving figurines out of wood. Many of his subjects were gnomes, western characters, farm animals, elves, and Santas. June loved and served the Lord for 20 plus years as a Deacon in his local church. June’s ministry in life was sharing the love of Christ throughout the year and during Christmas as “Santa”. Everywhere June went kids of all ages along with adults found the magical love of Santa when they saw him. With the long gray hair and beard, June always had candy in his pockets for the kids and encouraged them to do good so they would end up on his nice list. He was our Dad, our Santa, and Hero. We will always love you Dad, and we look forward to seeing you again one day on the other side of Heaven’s Gates at the feet of Jesus.

“So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord. For we walk by faith, not by sight. We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.” (2 Corinthians 5:6–8, NKJV)
