Obituary for Doris Pearce

Doris A. Pearce, 93, of Grinnell died on July 24, 2018, at the Mayflower Community Health Care Center.

A memorial service has been scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Thursday, August 2nd; at the Carman Center of the Mayflower Community with the Rev. Christine A. Tinker, Mayflower Spiritual Care Coordinator, officiating. Music will be provided by Kathy Vanderploeg as pianist, Laura Emerson and Greg Lincoln as vocalists, and Matt Meldrem on his harmonica. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Christine Grefe, Steve Neighbors, Bill and Ben Pearce, Jean Mitchell, Laura Emerson, and Amanda and Thomas Dale. A family burial will be held at the Westfield Cemetery, southwest of Grinnell.

Memorial contributions may be designated to the Westfield Church and Mayflower Human Needs Fund.

Doris was born on July 23, 1925, at the Grinnell Community Hospital in Grinnell, the daughter of Raymond E. and Lois Schultz White. She lived most of her life in the Grinnell area. She attended country school and was a 1942 graduate of Montezuma High School. After high school she was employed as a telephone operator in Grinnell and Malcom.

On April 15, 1945, she was united in marriage with Martin Pearce in Grinnell. To this union three children were born, Peggy, Robert and Patricia. The couple lived on their Century Farm for 46 years before moving to Grinnell. After the death of Martin in 1998, Doris moved to the Mayflower Community.

Doris was employed as an OB Tech at the Grinnell Hospital for 20 years and for eight years she and a friend had an infant day care center in Grinnell.

She was a member of the First Friends Church in Grinnell where she was active with the USFW of Friends Church and did lots of volunteer work. She was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary, Farm Bureau, and several other clubs. While living at the Mayflower she kept active as a volunteer in many aspects.

Doris is survived by her children, Peggy (Kenton) Elliott of Grinnell, Robert (Cindy) Pearce of Grinnell, and Patricia (David) Dale of Grinnell; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Kenneth White of Cedar Falls. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Martin; and a daughter-in-law, Dolly Pearce.
