Sharon Lee Thompson was born the daughter of Henry LeRoy Thompson and Betty Jane (Webb) Thompson on January 17, 1950 in Marshalltown, Iowa. She was raised near Gilman and attended school in Ferguson and Gilman. She graduated from Grinnell High School in 1968.

Sherry attended college at Iowa State University in Ames. She later returned to Grinnell, where in 1978 she began a 39-year career at JELD-WEN Windows. She was united in marriage to Victor Bennington on March 31, 1983 in Grinnell. Their marriage later ended in divorce. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star.

Sherry was always there to support others in need; no matter the situation. She volunteered countless hours to coordinate and raise funds for the JELD-WEN Relay for Life team. She enjoyed reading, scrapbooking and card making, watching movies, and was a fan of the Boston Celtics, Green Bay Packers, and Iowa State Cyclones. Sherry will be remembered for her sense of humor, quick wit, and kind, selfless way of always putting others' needs before her own.

Sherry is survived by her siblings, Karen Thompson of Grinnell, Ken (Karen) Thompson of Grinnell, Gary (Carla) Thompson of Cape Coral, Florida, Janet (Alvin) Peiffer of Washington, Peggy (Gary) Morse of Montezuma, Henry Thompson, Jr. of Grinnell and Glenn (Melanie) Thompson of Gilman; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
