Michael S. Holmes, 73, of Cleveland, Tennessee and formerly of Grinnell, died on Sunday, May 3, 2015, at his home in Cleveland. A graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 8, 2015 at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell with Rev. John Epperson officiating. Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home beginning 9:00 a.m. Friday. Michael was born on March 28, 1942, in Grinnell, Iowa to John and Mildred Sarsfield Holmes. He was raised in Grinnell and attended Grinnell schools. He was married to Patricia Scott on July 17, 1967, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The couple lived in California, Grinnell and Prescott, AZ. Prior to his retirement, he was a plant manager for a rubber plumbing goods company. After their retirement they moved to Cleveland, TN. Michael enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing, hunting, hiking and swimming in the ocean. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Holmes of Cleveland, TN; four daughters, Susan, Sharon, Kim and Lucinda; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, William Michael Holmes and John Michael Holmes; and two brothers, Robert Cleland Holmes and John Orville Holmes.
