Mary A. Hautekeete, 92, of Grinnell died March 26, 2008, at Windsor Manor in Grinnell. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 29, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with the Rev. Len Eberhart, pastor of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, officiating. Pallbearers will be Ralph Billick, Craig, Keith, Kenny, and Robert Jackson, and Franklin McDonald. Honorary bearers will be Danny Jackson, James McDonald, and Bobby and Dale Williams. Burial will be in Ivy Hill Cemetery in Malcom. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Mary Hautekeete Memorial Fund. The daughter of Benjamin LeRoy and Alice Mae Shannon Jackson, Mary was born November 1, 1915, on a farm in Hickory Grove Township, west of Newburg. She attended rural schools in Minnesota and the Malcom area and later attended Malcom High School. On September 7, 1935, she was married to Alfons Ernest Hautekeete, at a family member's home in Butler County, Iowa. The couple farmed near Malcom for 21 years and after her husband's death in 1973 she moved to Grinnell. She was a homemaker and took great pride in raising her family and taking care of her home. She was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, Malcom Study Club, and the Iowa Decorative Painters. Mary loved spending time with her family, they were her focal point in life. She enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, knitting, and bird watching. Later in life she held a passion for painting and she felt like there was nothing she could not paint on. She was very proud of all her work and enjoyed the gift of giving a lot of her artwork to family members and friends. Survivors include her children, Anna Stone of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Arlene (John) Reimers of Malcom, Fern (Franklin) Reimers of Columbia City, Indiana, and Richard (Sherry) Hautekeete of Marengo; two brothers, Wilbur (Mabel) Jackson of Gilman and Benjamin (Marge) Jackson of Cresco; two sisters, Frances Langhoff of Alburquerque, New Mexico and Agnes (Kenneth) Williams of Eldora; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 6 great great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; one son, Alfons Ernest Hautekeete, Jr., one grandson, Timothy Stone; one brother, Frank Jackson; and two sisters, Opal McDonald and Dorothy Jackson.
