Lucille Anderson, age 93, of Grinnell, died on Friday, January 6, 2017, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell with her family by her side. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at St. Mary's Church in Grinnell with Fr. Ron Hodges officiating. Pallbearers will be John, Charles and Richard Anderson, Robin Broders, Chris Brandt and Bruce Tokle. Burial will be in the Pleasant Township Cemetery in Ewart. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell and the family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday evening. A scripture service will be held at 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memories and condolences may be shared with Lucille's family online at www.smithfh.com. Lucille was born October 6, 1923, in Grinnell, the daughter of Regina Lause and Harry Morrison. She attended school in the rural school system and graduated from Grinnell High School in 1941. She attended the American Institute of Business in Des Moines and graduated in 1942. She was employed at the Grinnell Shoe Company as a secretary for 8 years. She was married to Gardner Allen Anderson on May 21, 1950, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grinnell. They lived in Iowa City where Mr. Anderson was an electrician and she was a secretary at the University of Iowa Hospitals. In 1952, they moved to Letts, Iowa, and were employed on a farm by Robert Schmidt. In 1961, they moved to the home place in rural Grinnell after the death of her father, Harry Morrison. She tended to her flower and vegetable gardens, canned, and assisted on the farm. Lucille was a member of St. Mary's Altar & Rosary Society and held the offices of treasurer and president. She was a 4-H leader for 16 years, a member of the Pastoral Council at St. Mary's Catholic Church, a member of CowBelles, serving as president. In September 2001, she and her husband moved to Seeland Park. After her husband's death in February 2002, she took the Hospice Volunteer training course and was active in Hospice, especially in the office area. At Seeland Park, she served on the Advisory Board and Welcome Committee. Surviving are her children, John (Amy) Anderson of Maquoketa, Charles Anderson of Cedar Rapids, Betty (Robin) Broders of Grinnell, Richard (Sherri) Anderson of Springfield, Missouri, and Carol (Chris) Brandt of Waukee; 7 grandchildren, Regina (Brent) Cahill of Cedar Rapids, Becky Anderson of Waterloo, Raymond and Fred Broders of Grinnell, Taylor and Tarryn Anderson of Springfield, Missouri, and Christina (Kazim) Yezdi of Des Moines; and two great grandchildren, Mattias and Regina Yezdi of Des Moines. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2002; her father in 1961; her mother in 1981; and children, Mary in 1955, Robert in 1958 and Raymond in 1964.
