Elizabeth E. Yelenick, 58, of Grinnell, died on Sunday, December 14, 2014, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
A celebration of her life will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 20, 2014, at the United Methodist Church in Grinnell with Pastor Rose Blank officiating. Pallbearers are Benjamin and Joey Benda, Kurt Brennecke, Chuck Johnson, Bill Rozendaal, and Craig Shore. Interment will be in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.
Visitation with the family present will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the service time Saturday morning at the church.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Grinnell United Methodist Church and mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112.
Elizabeth Emily (Miller) Yelenick was born on January 5, 1956, in Victor, Iowa to Paul and Genevieve (Hamelburg) Miller. She was raised in Victor until the family moved to Grinnell in 1974, where she graduated from high school in 1977.
Liz was united in marriage to Robert Yelenick on October 17, 1992, at the Grace Community Church in Grinnell and the couple later attended the Grinnell United Methodist Church. The couple was blessed with two adopted sons, Michael and Christopher Yelenick. Liz was employed as a certified nurse's assistant at St. Francis Manor and the Mayflower Community respectively.
Liz's family and her faith in God were her life. She lived a very simple life and asked a little but gave a lot. She held a special love for all animals, especially her cats. Her other enjoyments included going on mission trips to help those in need and camping with her family.
Liz is survived by her husband, Rob Yelenick of Grinnell; and two sons, Michael Yelenick of Montezuma, IA and Christopher Yelenick of Des Moines, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Ann Bair who died on June 18, 2014, at 57 years of age.
