Bernice 89, of Brooklyn, Iowa died on Saturday, June 23, 2012, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 28, 2012, at St. James Lutheran Church in Victor with Pastor Michael Kolesar officiating. The family will be present one hour prior to the service to greet friends. Interment will be at Rector Cemetery in Chelsea following a luncheon at the church. Bernice was born on July 10, 1922, to the parents of Godfrey and Jennie Ryan Veit in Brooklyn Iowa. She was raised in Hartwick, and graduated with the class of 1939, from Hartwick High School. After high school she worked at the armory in Ankeny, Iowa during World War II as a mail carrier. On January 21, 1947, she was united in marriage to Milton Cronbaugh. The couple lived near Belle Plaine before purchasing a farm near Hartwick, where they raised their family. They later moved to the Veit family farm near Brooklyn untill their health declined. Bernice was devoted to assisting her husband on the farm. She had an avid interest in conservation, and gardening. She was an active member at the St. James Lutheran Church. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Berince is survived by her children, Bonnie (Dennis) Moon of Brooklyn, Iowa, Cherie (Ron) Wauters of Pella, Iowa, Nick (Pam) Cronbaugh of Hartwick, Iowa, Crystal (Bill) Van Waus of Victor, Iowa, Vicki (Steve) Van Nevel of Brooklyn, Iowa, and Leeann Cronbaugh of Iowa City, Iowa; 20 grandchildren; 26 great-children; and several nieces and nephews. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; husband Milton in December 2011; sister Gayle Goodman; infant son; and nephew Gene Goodman. The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at St. Francis Manor for the care they provided to Bernice during her time there. The family has requested in lieu of flowers, to direct memorials to the Lutheran World Relief.
