Yody Kay Neeley, 68, of Grinnell passed away on August 30, 2020, at Iowa Lutheran Medical Center in Des Moines.
A gathering with the Neeley family present has been scheduled from 5:00 to 7:00 Thursday evening, September 3rd, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell, followed by a prayer service at 7:15 p.m. with Rev. John Epperson officiating.
A luncheon will be held prior to the gathering at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, September 3rd, at Connections-Grinnell, formerly the Station Clubhouse. The Entrance for Connections-Grinnell is located on 3rd Avenue.
Memorial contributions may be designated to the Yody Neeley family.
Yody was born on January 26, 1952, in Grinnell, the daughter of Leland and Irene Walker Meredith. She was raised in Grinnell and was a 1970 graduate of Grinnell High School. She later attended Iowa Valley Community College in Marshalltown where she received her LPN.
On June 27, 1980, she was united in marriage to Terry Neeley, in Lynnville.
A marriage of 40 years. The couple lived in Grinnell where they raised their three children.
Yody was employed in daycare, both in her home and at a daycare center. She later worked as an EMT and then paramedic for Midwest Ambulance Service. She was a CNA at St. Francis Manor and Mayflower Community and shortly thereafter, as an LPN at Mayflower. She retired in 2010.
Yody enjoyed spending time with her family and was often referred to as Gamody. She loved coloring, playing on her coloring app., arts and crafts, and making things for her family members, especially diamond art pictures. She liked having fun and laughing.
She is survived by her husband, Terry of Grinnell; two daughters, Laurie Wildhagen of Northampton, Massachusetts and Kim (Paul Grady) Neeley of Hobart, Indiana; nine grandchildren, James, Jessica, Tony, and Alivia Neeley, Hazel, Leo, and Felix Wildhagen, and Madalyn and Teagan Grady; one brother, Lee Meredith of Grinnell; two sisters, Judy Mitchell and Betty Stepp of Grinnell; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Jon Neeley in 2013; two brothers, Lyle and Jerry Meredith; and two sisters, Donna Arment and Delores Meredith, in infancy.
