Obituary

Wilma Elrod Wilson, 79, of Grinnell, died on March 30, 2020, at the Integris Hospice House in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Due to state and federal guidelines on gatherings as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, a private family graveside and burial will be held Wednesday, April 8th, at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell with Rev. John Epperson officiating. A public celebration of her life service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Wilma's honor may be designated to the Newburg-Chester Congregational Church or St. Francis Manor Foundation and sent in c/o Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112. Wilma was born on April 21, 1940, in Prairie City, the daughter of Lester and Florence Romick Elrod. She was raised in Prairie City and was a graduate of Prairie City High School. On October 20, 1962, she was united in marriage to Paul Leon Wilson, in Gilman. The couple lived in La Crosse, Wisconsin prior to returning to the family farm in the Rock Creek neighborhood in 1970, and operated a grain and livestock farm. For many years, Wilma owned and operated Vogue Styling Salon on Main Street in Grinnell. Wilma was a loving caring mother and was extremely fond of her family – especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved entertaining the entire family during holidays and special events. Wilma was an active member of the Newburg-Chester Congregational Church and dearly loved her circle of longtime friends. As owner/operator of The Vogue Styling Salon for many years, she served others with compassion, interest, and joy. She will long be remembered for her keen sense of humor and her undeniable generosity. Wilma is survived by her three children, Sandy (Vic) Frost of Omaha, Nebraska, Phil Wilson of Denver, Colorado, and Greg (Stephanie) Wilson of Edmond, Oklahoma; 7 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and 3 sisters. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leon in 2011; and a grandson, Jason Paul Faust in 2018.
