Wilma R. Vinall, 88, formerly of Newton and Kellogg, died May 30, 2021, at Mayflower Community Health Center in Grinnell. Wilma had been a Mayflower resident since 2018.
Born on August 24, 1932 in Lovilia, Wilma was the daughter of Harry and Clara Chamberlain. She attended country schools around Lovilia and graduated from Albia in 1950. Following high school, she moved to Newton where she met and married Carl E. Vinall on November 29, 1952. Wilma and Carl raised their family of three children on a family farm in the Rock Creek area near Kellogg, before retiring and moving to Newton in 1995. Wilma also worked part-time at retail and fabric stores in Grinnell and Newton. She and Carl enjoyed winters in the South and Southwest and travelling the country with their camper trailer. Wilma also enjoyed sewing, playing bingo, keeping connected with old neighbors, and assembling family photo albums. She was a member of Kellogg United Methodist Church.
Wilma is survived by daughters, Vicki Vinall of Grinnell and Linda Vinall of Des Moines; two granddaughters, Chrystal Vinall Williams and Vanessa Wiggins; great-granddaughter Machelle Wiggins; sisters Donna Winburn of Grinnell and Zelma Weiss of Fallon, NV; brother Jack Chamberlain of Abilene, TX; nephew and wife Sam and Joyce Vinall of Oklahoma; special friends, Cindy and Dennis Bates and Hazel Belzer, in addition to extended family and friends. Wilma is preceded in death by her parents; husband Carl in April 2020; son Michael Carl in 1976; and brothers Bob Chamberlain, Rex Chamberlain and Lester Chamberlain, and sister Dorothy Barton.
Memorials in Wilma's name may be made to Mayflower Community Human Needs Fund.
A memorial service for both Wilma and Carl will be held this summer with burial of cremains in Our Silent City Cemetery, Kellogg.
