Obituary

William Lewis Robison (1938-2025)

Beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, coach, mentor and colleague William (Bill) Lewis Robison passed away peacefully December 13, 2025, he was 87.

Born to Jim and Vera Robison in Grinnell, Iowa, Bill married Vicky Shaw in 1959. Bill was a 1956 graduate of Grinnell High School and a 1960 graduate of Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa where he earned his degree in Physics and Math. During the years spent at Cornell College he was active in the Beta Omicron (men's) social club. The bond with his "OWL" brothers remained strong for a lifetime.

As an outstanding student athlete, Bill's dedication to the athletic programs at Cornell was evident. He was a valued team member of the basketball and football teams for four years. Bill and Vicky left Iowa for California in 1960 so Bill could pursue his PhD at UC Berkeley. After receiving his PhD Bill and family moved to Livermore in 1963 so Bill could begin his career at LLNL (Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory) as a research scientist where among other projects he led the program researching the effects of nuclear weapons testing on the Marshall Islands and whether it was safe for the Marshallese to return to their islands.

Bill loved life! His impact and legacy on those he touched, whether it was being a loving husband, parent, and grandparent, a great coach, friend, mentor or volunteer for civic organizations, will endure.

Bill leaves his wife Vicky, sons and their wives Steve (Jodi), Mark (Stacy) and Matt (Suzy), brother Jerry (Glory), five grandchildren, six great grandchildren and his many relatives and friends. Bill's life reminds us… "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened."
