William James Haines, Jr. died March 14, 2022 at his home in Grinnell.
A private family burial will be held at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell, IA.
Bill was born June 26, 1949 to William J., Sr. and Luvica Belcher Haines in Grinnell, IA. He was raised in Grinnell and attended Grinnell School District. Bill worked for Miracle Recreation as a mold maker and fiberglass spray applicator and also with Jeld-Wen for many years before his retirement.
Bill married Linda Thompson, and to this union were born two children, Karri and William James III "BJ". Their marriage later ended in divorce. Bill eventually met the love of his life, Vickie Rupe, and the couple married June 26, 1981.
Bill enjoyed wood burning, coin collecting, trapping, fishing, vegetable gardening and raising rabbits. Bill was an accomplished drawer and loved writing poetry. Bill will be remembered as a jokester with a big heart; he had a willingness to help anyone and enjoyed making people laugh.
Those left to cherish Bill's memory include his daughter, Karri (Eric) Canakes of Waterloo, IA; grandson, Tylor Canakes of Waterloo, IA; two great-grandchildren; siblings, K Saurer of Hale, MI, Luvica (Rusty) Ervin of Tama, IA, Jim (Cindy) Haines of Grinnell, IA, Gerald (Gayl) Haines of Ellis, KS, and Rosie Duncan of Grinnell; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Vickie; son, William James Haines III "BJ"; siblings, Wanda and Chet Haines; and brothers-in-law, Rudolph "John" Saurer and John Duncan.
