William John Gerdemann, 60, of Montezuma, died April 7, 2014, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.
A private family service will be held at a later date.

Bill was born February 11, 1954, in Dubuque, the son of John William and Mary Elizabeth Bergfeld Gerdemann. He was raised in Dubuque and attended Dubuque Wahlert High School. Following his education he lived in several communities in Iowa including Lamont and Oelwein.
Bill held many jobs throughout his life including working on a farm, horse training, tree trimming, and mechanical and janitorial work. Most recently he was employed at Goodwill Industries in Independence, Iowa.
Bill held a love for the outdoors, hunting and fishing, mushroom hunting and riding his motorcycle. He enjoyed woodworking and knew the value of hard work. He was a "good guy" to many and especially enjoyed sharing his time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include three children, Danielle Bryant of Waterloo, Asia Gerdemann of Elgin and John Gerdemann of eastern Iowa; two grandchildren, Gage and Mya Wallace of Waterloo; and several sisters and brothers. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son Darren Gerdemann.
