Warner was born June 8, 1928 on a farm in Sullivan County near Milan, Missouri, the son of William Glenn Steele and Zulah June Davis. He received his elementary education in the rural schools in Sullivan County and was a 1946 graduate of Milan High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army. On January 11, 1953, he was united in marriage to Shirley Lou Lawrence in Milan, Missouri. They then moved to Grinnell where he was employed with Maytag Company in Newton. In 1957, Warner bought the Shell Station which he operated until 1961 when he became manager of the Marengo Trucker's Inn for a few years. He then purchased the Pioneer Oil Station and began his love of landscaping on a part-time basis. From 1972 to 1977, he was employed at Farmhand and then established his own business, Warner's Landscaping, which he was still actively working the day of his death. He was also well known in the community for his snow removal for forty years. He was a past member of the Grinnell American Legion, Elks Lodge and Eagles Lodge. Warner is survived by his wife, Shirley; one son Terry; and one daughter, Cheri Monteleone; all of Grinnell; one sister, Dora Belle Clark of Kirksville, Missouri; four granddaughters, Tawny Monteleone, and Tyne, Tiffini, and Alexis Steele and their mother, Mary Steele. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister in infancy, Ella Mae; one brother, Glenn Steele, Jr. and one brother-in-law, Jim Clark.
