Wanda M. Kiesey, age 93, of Grinnell, died on Sunday, February 22, 2015, at Grinnell Health Care Center. A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 12, 2015, at the Elks Lodge in Grinnell with Pastor John Epperson officiating. A reception will be held at the Elks Lodge following her service. Memorials may be designated to the American Cancer Society and the Alzheimer's Association, mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112. Wanda was born on October 29, 1921, to Cash and Myrtle (Deeds) Adkins at the family home in rural Jasper County near Grinnell. She was educated at country schools in Jasper County and Grinnell High School respectively. She was united in marriage to William "Bill" Kiesey on June 4, 1947, at the United Methodist Church in Montezuma, Iowa. The couple made their home in rural Jasper County near Oakland Acres. Wanda was employed as a waitress at the Chester Inn in Grinnell and later worked at Matthews Rexall Drug Store for 29 years and Graham's Department Store for 3 years in Grinnell. Wanda held a special love for children, especially her nieces and nephews. Her nieces and nephews often looked forward to going to her house as she always had snacks and a bottle of soda ready for them to enjoy. Her enjoyments included playing cards, going to dances, and visiting with family and friends. Wanda is survived by her sisters, Ila Mintle of Grinnell and Barbara Henderson of Vancouver, Washington; nieces and nephews, Mary McIvor of Wheat Ridge, Colorado, Dennis Mintle of Longmont, Colorado, Mike Mintle of Grinnell, Steve Mintle of Grinnell, Karen Peterson of Aurora, Colorado, Rich May of Grinnell, and Linda Houston of Vancouver, Washington. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Wilma May in 2006; and brothers-in-law, Howard May, Ross Mintle, and Buford Henderson.
