Virginia Louise Moore, 85, of Grinnell died on May 13, 2021, at her home of natural causes.
A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 21st, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Rev. Jim Dotson officiating. Burial will be in Ivy Hill Cemetery in Malcom.
Visitation with the family present will be held one hour prior to the funeral service, starting at 10:00 a.m., at the funeral home.
The service will be live-streamed on the Smith Funeral Home Facebook page beginning at 10:45 a.m.
Memorial contributions may be designated to St. Jude Children's Hospital and mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Bo 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112.
Virginia was born on July 31, 1935, in Malcom, the daughter of Clarence A. and Belva Neville Irwin. She was raised in Malcom and was a 1953 graduate of Malcom High School.
On December 5, 1953, she was united in marriage to Wavern McDowell, in Grinnell. To this union they had two sons, Roger and Rodney. The couple lived in Malcom and were later divorced. On May 29, 1981, she was united in marriage to Raymond Moore, in Grinnell, and they continued to make their home there.
Virginia had worked at Dickies Restaurant near Malcom and later at the Skel-diner near Grinnell. She was employed at Harrison's Department Store in Grinnell for many years and then at Grinnell College. She retired from the college, after 20 years, in 2000.
Virginia enjoyed traveling to Flea Markets and attending auctions. On occasion, she enjoyed fishing with Raymond.
Survivors include two sons, Roger McDowell of Ely, Iowa and Rodney McDowell of Avondale, Arizona; two step-children, Jeff Moore and Billie Anderson, both of Cedar Rapids; one granddaughter, Keely McDowell of Avondale; one brother, Eugene (Diane) Irwin of Bloomfield; and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond; her sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Kenny Hanssen; and a nephew, Michael Hanssen.
