A Celebration of Life Gathering, to honor the lives of both Vernon "Chip" and Pamela Gibson, will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, July 17, 2021 at the Grinnell Elks Lodge. Burial at Our Silent City Cemetery in Kellogg, IA will take place at a later date.
Vernon "Chip" Gibson was born September 3, 1937 in Grinnell, the son of Marion and Florence (Beason) Gibson. Chip was united in marriage to Pamela Purvis on November 22, 2004. He was employed with Miracle Recreation and later Game Time Playground Equipment. He retired in 2003, a career spanning 30 years.
Chip loved the outdoors and was a conservationist at heart, he enjoyed duck hunting, fishing and worked for the DNR. His black labs were his best friends who joined him on many hunting trips. He was a former member of the Kellogg United Methodist Church, Elks Lodge, and Ducks Unlimited.
Vernon "Chip" Gibson died on Monday, July 5, 2021 at his home under the care of UnityPoint Hospice at the age of 83. He is survived by his children Natalie Wissink, Clint Gibson, and Susan Gibson; stepson, Ben Rupe; siblings, Shirley Juregensen and Gary Gibson; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Pamela; his parents, Marion and Florence; and brother-in-law Paul Jurgensen.
