Verleen Brooks Eggman, 82, of Grinnell, died August 29, 2015, at St. Francis Manor. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 4th, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Rev. John Epperson officiating. Organist will be Denise Baustian. Pallbearers will be Aaron and Austin Cornelius, Blake Earnhart, Erik Glass and Michael and Troy Parrott. Burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell. Visitation with the family present will be held from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to First Baptist Church, Speed of Life-Grinnell Regional Medical Center or St. Francis Manor Foundation. Verleen was born May 2, 1933, in Grinnell, the daughter of Michael C. and Ethel Graham Brooks. She was raised in Grinnell and was a 1950 graduate of Grinnell High School. A loving mother, Verleen raised her four children alone until finding the love of her life. On August 11, 1969, she was united in marriage with Kenneth Eggman in Grinnell, where the couple continued to make their home. For over 29 ½ years, she was employed with Grinnell Mutual Re-Insurance Company. She retired in 1991. The couple later wintered in Casa Grande and Show Low, Arizona for 18 years. Verleen was a member of the Baptist Church in Grinnell and Casa Grande and was very active in the church and with the bell choir. Verleen held a passion for traveling which included several trips to Alaska and Hawaii and on cruise ships through the Caribbean Islands and the Panama Canal. Her adventures included fishing on Lake Huron, panning for gold in Alaska, and acting as campground hosts at Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming and San Luis State Park in Colorado. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and cooking. She was very proud of all three sons achieving the rank of Eagle Scout while in the Boy Scouts. Survivors include her husband, Kenneth of Grinnell; four children, Richard (JoAnna) Parrott of El Paso, Texas, Sharon (JR) Killinger of Del Ray, Florida, James Parrott of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Dennis (Shirley) Parrott of Grinnell; five step-children, Reath Snyder of Dixon, California, Cheri (George) O'Brien of Casa Grande, Arizona, Vicky Gronewold of East Peoria, Illinois, Kenneth Eggman, Jr. of Destin, Florida and Lisa (David ) Bowers of Mason City; one sister, Naomi Gerard of Grinnell; 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her "second" parents, J.C. and Blanche Parrott; one grandson, Steve Glass; one brother-in-law, Eldon Gerard; step son, Roger Eggman and son-in-law, Mark Gronewold.
