Obituary

Uon In, 67, of Grinnell, died on Thursday, October 8, 2015, at his home. A celebration of his life will be held 9:30 a.m., Saturday, October 17, 2015, at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. Burial will follow in Hazelwood Cemetery. Should friends desire, memorials may be directed to the Uon In Memorial Fund. Uon was born on August 6, 1948, in Thailand to Pel Pou and Chouk In. His father died when Uon was five and the family moved to Cambodia. Uon farmed, mined and was a monk for five years, before becoming a soldier for Cambodia. He was united in marriage to Savin Rem and together they had four children; Makara, Makarie, Saran and Salie. On April 17, 1994, he married Solpaul Brim. Uon enjoyed fishing, hunting and yard work; especially mowing. He at one time, mowed up to 12 lawns in one week. He always loved traveling to see his family. Uon could be found watching the Food Network, the Cooking Channel or the Price Is Right. His greatest love was that for his family. Uon is survived by his wife, Solpaul Brim of Grinnell; three daughters, Makara "Sue" Hing of Long Beach, California, Makarie Uon of Seattle, Washington and Emily In of Johnston, Iowa; two sons, Saran Uon and Salie Uon, both of Seattle, Washington; one step-daughter, Mira Gustafson of Grimes, Iowa; three step-sons, Chate Chay of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Kri Chay of Kansas City, Missouri and Pailan Chay of Grinnell; eleven grandchildren; his mother, Pel Pou, of Des Moines; one sister, Yom Van of Des Moines; and three brothers, Tum In and Po Van, both of Des Moines and Roeum Van of Long Beach, California. He was preceded in death by his father, Chouk In.
