Tracy A. Smith, 48, of Grinnell, died April 21, 2012, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 27, at the Grinnell High School gymnasium with Rev. Len Eberhart, pastor of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, officiating. Pallbearers will be Sam Barnes, Denny Durr, Brian Gruhn, Ray Michaels, Kevin "Smiley" Miller, Tim Moorehead and Bill Tinkle. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with the family present from 5:00 to 8:00 Thursday evening.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Grinnell High School FFA, Grinnell United Methodist Church, or Jewel Box Quilt Guild.
Tracy was born on April 9, 1964, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Jerry and Claudia Howard Davis. In 1974, she moved with her family to Grinnell. She graduated from Grinnell High School in 1982 where she participated in basketball and was involved in many other activities. She was also actively involved in showing horses at local and state events and was the recipient of several awards.
On October 3, 1981, she was united in marriage to Jeffrey D. Smith, in Grinnell. They were blessed with two sons, Dustin and Tyler.
Tracy began working for Grinnell State Bank in 1982 and then later as an administrative assistant at the Grinnell High School in 1995. During this time she also assisted her family in multiple family-owned businesses, including Grinnell Sport Shop, Kelcy's restaurant in Grinnell, and the Apple Basket restaurant in Montezuma.
She was an active member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, Stephens Ministry, and Jewel Box Quilt Guild where she served as president and on various other committees. She was also a former 4-H leader. Family was a very important part of Tracy's life. As a family, they enjoyed 4-H, cattle shows, camping, sporting events and shopping. She also enjoyed flowers and gardening.
Survivors include her husband, Jeff of Grinnell; two sons, Dustin (Tami) Smith of Grinnell and Tyler (Anna Freese) Smith of Norway; one granddaughter, Rylie Smith of Grinnell; her parents, Jerry and Claudia Davis of Grinnell; one sister, Kelly (Gary) Sieck of Grinnell; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Clyde and Dorothy Davis and Gilbert and Beulah Howard.
