Todd Anthony
Janicki
October 6, 1977 – February 4, 2025
Dr. Todd Anthony Janicki, 47, passed away on February 4, 2025, at his home in Grinnell, Iowa.
Family will greet friends at the visitation held from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM, Monday, February 10, 2025 at Smith Funeral Home, Grinnell, IA. A funeral mass is scheduled for 10:30 AM, Tuesday, February 11 at St. Mary Church in Grinnell, IA. A luncheon will be held at the Fellowship Hall of the Church immediately following the mass. Private family burial will be held later.
Todd was born on October 6, 1977, in Buffalo, New York, to Ronald James Janicki and Carol Ann (Jasiura) Sheehan. He was raised in Buffalo and graduated from St. Francis High School before pursuing higher education at Niagara University. He later earned both his MD and MBA from the State University of New York at Buffalo Medical School in 1999. Todd completed his residency at Erie County Medical Center and dedicated over 25 years to internal medicine, working at Ohio State University Medical Center and most recently at UnityPoint Grinnell Regional Medical Center.
On June 24, 2023, Todd married Julie (Walker) Thilges in Garner, Iowa. Together, they built a loving home on their farm in rural Grinnell, blending their families. Todd was a devoted father to his children—Brendan, Erika, Lauren, and Patrick—from his previous marriage to Jennifer Whelan, as well as to Julie's children—Gracelyn, Jacob, Emily, and Jackson. In 2024, they welcomed their son Noah into the family. He found great joy in supporting his children's activities in 4-H, sports, music, and church events.
Todd had a deep love for the outdoors and cherished life on the farm, where he cared for his sheep and tended to his garden. His passion for animals began in childhood during visits to state fairs and grew as he studied agriculture at Ohio State University while working in medicine at the University's Medical Center. He enjoyed traveling and treasured memories of trips to Europe and the Caribbean. Proud of his Polish heritage, he had dreams of visiting Poland one day.
A man of strong Catholic faith, Todd was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. He was also member of the National Rifle Association, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Republican National Committee, Practical Farmers of Iowa, Iowa Sheep Industry Association, and the American College of Physicians. He holds a license through the Iowa Board of Medicine, American Board of Internal Medicine and ACLS certification.
Todd will be remembered for his dedication to his family and community, unwavering positivity, and problem-solving spirit. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Todd is survived by his parents, Ronald and Carol; wife, Julie Janicki; children, Gracelyn Walker, Brendan Janicki, Erika Janicki, Jacob Thilges, Lauren Janicki, Emily Thilges, Patrick Janicki, Jackson Thilges, and Noah Janicki, father and mother-in-law, Gary and Laurel Walker; sisters-in-law, Amy (Jared) Beenken, and Paige (Jake) Radmaker; God parents, Richard and Joyce Jasiura, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
