Thomas E. Hollopeter, 71, of Grinnell, formerly of Belle Plaine and Brooklyn, passed away on September 25, 2026, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids.

Tom was born on October 12, 1954, to Charles and Jo Ann (Walton) Hollopeter in Belle Plaine, IA. He grew up in Ladora and attended HLV Community Schools, graduating with the class of 1972.

On April 19, 1975, Tom was united in marriage to Jeanne Walford at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Brooklyn. To this union the couple had three daughters, Heather, Lisa and Amy.

Tom worked for Rockwell Goss in Cedar Rapids as a machinist for 18 years, while simultaneously serving the Belle Plaine City Council which led to serving as Mayor for 8 years. He then spent the rest of his career as a Truck Driver traveling the US from coast to coast, later retiring from Wehrle Trucking of Lynnville in 2023.

Tom enjoyed playing golf, fishing and watching all sports, especially the KC Chiefs. He cherished time spent with family and friends.

Tom is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jeanne Hollopeter, his daughters, Heather Hollopeter, Lisa (Aaron Vann) Hollopeter, and Amy (Nick) Arens, his grandchildren, Chryton, Graydon, and Daxtyn, his sisters-in-laws, RaeJean Hollopeter, Debra Walford, Mary (Lee) Ohler, and Jennifer Bidler, his brothers-in-laws, David (Anne) Walford, and Mark (Joan) Walford, numerous nieces, and nephews, and numerous great nieces, and nephews.

He is preceded by his parents, Charles, and Jo Ann, his brother Tim Hollopeter, and in-laws, Stanley and Kay Walford.

Visitation to be held on Friday, October 9, 2026, from 4:00 pm -7:00 pm at Smith Funeral Home in Brooklyn.
