Terry Wayne McDowell was born on February 12, 1949, in Grinnell, the son of Wayne L. McDowell and Florence L. Smith. Terry had a zest for life and was always willing to help anyone in need. He truly had a heart of gold. Sometimes quick tongued, he lived his life by the adage of a Frank Sinatra Song, 'I Did It My Way'. He will be sorely missed by his brother, David, and many family members and friends. Terry is survived by his brother, David McDowell of Grinnell; Step-sister, Debra (Jeff) Glisan of Wyoming, Illinois; Step-brothers, Larry (Joene) Steele of Hopedale, Illinois and Steven (Deborah) Steele of Lancon, Illinois. Also surviving are his aunts, Elna Stanley of Grinnell, Mary Cook of Montezuma and Frances Mincer of Lakewood, California; a niece, nephew and several cousins and his multitude of friends. Terry was preceded in death by his parents, paternal and maternal grandparents and many aunts and uncles. I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one. I'd like to leave an afterglow of smiles when the day is gone. I'd like to leave an echo of whispering softly down the ways. Remember the happy times, the laughing times and the bright sunny days. Be not burdened with times of sorrow, my life's been full, I've savored much with good friends, good times. I'd like the tears of those who grieve to dry before the sun, and remember the happy memories that I leave when life is done. Memorials may be directed to the Terry W.
