Terry Lee Bailey, 58, of Grinnell, passed away Saturday, July 25, 2015, at University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa, while surrounded by his family after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. A celebration of his life will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 29, 2015, in the Carman Center of the Mayflower Community Health Care Center, 600 Park Street, in Grinnell. Following the service a reception will be held at Oakland Acres Clubhouse. Pastor John Epperson and family friend Russ Crawford will be the officiants. Memorial contributions may be designated to the Terry L. Bailey Memorial Fund, mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112. Terry was born in Marshalltown, Iowa on July 20th, 1957, to Mary (Walker) and Richard Bailey. He was raised on the family farm in Grinnell and attended Grinnell-Newburg schools, graduating with the class of 1975. He was joined in marriage to Maria Lynn Eickhoff on March 14, 1980. His lifelong career in the construction world began in 1979, when he was hired on to build the Hardee's in Grinnell. From there, he and Lynn began their life on the road for JA Farrell Co. out of Colorado. He became a superintendent for the company four months later. They called Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin home for 10 years, where they raised their two children through most of their school age years. Back on the road, they continued in the construction world with BDH Contracting out of Missouri, with Dusty Dostal. Terry enjoyed collecting guns, kayaking, golfing, fishing, and time with family. Terry is survived by his father Richard of Grinnell; wife, Lynn of Grinnell; son, Russell (Calaye) of Grinnell; daughter, Amber (Matt) Frazier of Oskaloosa, Iowa; four grandchildren, whom he adored; and siblings, Marty (Vonna) Bailey of Grinnell, Brent (Terri) Bailey of Spring, Texas, Lisa (Jim) Klipfel of Colorado City, Colorado, Scott (Leslie) Bailey of Crawfordsville, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary (Walker) Bailey.
