Obituary

Tammy Lemke, 45, of Grinnell died December 14, 2007, at her home. A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 19, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with the Rev. John Epperson, pastor of the Grinnell Christian Church, officiating. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Tammy Lemke Memorial Fund. The daughter of Louise Mae Hoffsteatter and James William Lemke, Tammy was born July 9, 1962, in Iowa City. She was raised in Grinnell and received her education in the Grinnell School District. After her education, she was employed at St. Francis Manor and DeLong Sportswear. She took some time away from her employment to raise her children and then in the late 1990s she was employed for several years at HW Brand Equipment. She retired in 2000 due to health reasons. Tammy loved her family and attending family gatherings. She was very fond of her grandson. She enjoyed arts and crafts and working with beads. She loved animals and riding horses. She also loved the Christmas Holiday. She held a passion for collecting lighthouses, writing poetry, and taking pictures of her family. Survivors include two sons, Nick Lemke and Nathan Haines of Grinnell; her mother and step-father, Louise and Willard Lippmann of Grinnell; two sisters, Christy Lemke of Grinnell and Susan Slings of Newton; one brother, Steven Lemke of Nashville, Tennessee; and one grandson, Chase Lemke of Grinnell. She was preceded in death by her father and grandparents.
