Obituary

Suzanne was born the daughter of Victor and Mary Blomme Van Hamme on August 8, 1921, at her parent's home near Victor, Iowa. She was raised near Victor and educated at rural schools near her home. Following her education she assisted her parents on the family farm. She was united in marriage to Vernard Gordon Block on May 23, 1965, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Hartwick and Suzanne was a homemaker. Suzanne was a dedicated member of the St. James Lutheran Church in Victor, where she was actively involved in several functions of the church including, St. James Ladies Aid. She exemplified her faith by spending most of her life improving the lives of others by volunteering her time to the church and numerous organizations such as the American Red Cross blood drive, the SHARE program in Hartwick, Community Meals in Victor, the Hartwick Fire Department Firewomen, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Her enjoyments included gardening, cooking, sewing, flowers, traveling, dancing, listening to polka music, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Suzanne is survived by her husband of 42 years, Vernard Block of Hartwick; her children, Sally (Ronald) Campbell of Dallas, Texas, Larry (Betty) Wiedemeier of Des Moines, Iowa, Karen Wiedemeier of Des Moines, and Marty Block of Hartwick; 6 grandchildren, Paul (Allison) Wiedemeier, Jeanette (Matt) Wiedemeier Bower, Hannah Block, Hillary Block, Ethan Block, and Rabi'h Nahas'; 4 great grandchildren, Arianna Bower, Connor Wiedemeier, Donovann Bower, and Adam Wiedemeier; her sister-in-law, Elaine (Norris) Bigbee of Grinnell, Iowa, and sister-in-law Marjorie Van Hamme of Brooklyn, Iowa. Suzanne was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Leonard Van Hamme. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Suzanne E. Block Memorial Fund.
