Obituary

Sue Marie was born on January 2, 1934 in Knoxville, Iowa. She was raised in Albia and Knoxville before moving to Newton, Iowa. She graduated from Newton High School with the class of 1952. She married the love of her life, Ernest 'Bud' Spencer Deppe on August 10, 1951. To this union were born their children, Randall William and Carol Sue. She was a homemaker and several years later she was the secretary to the chief engineer at General Telephone Company in Grinnell. She held several positions in her 32 years at GTE before she took early retirement after a bout with cancer. She then worked with her husband 'Bud' operating their two businesses, Double 'D' Feeds in Searsboro and Grinnell. They sold the businesses in 2003. Sue dearly loved her grandchildren and often attended their activities. She would prepare for holidays several weeks in advance to make sure her family walked into a well-decorated home and would enjoy a delicious meal. She was an excellent cook who often tried new recipes for her family to enjoy. Bud and Sue loved to travel and would take their grandchildren on a special trip every July. Her other enjoyments included NASCAR and dirt track racing, watching soap operas, reading, and going to Texas every winter since 1995. Sue is survived by her husband of 57 years, 'Bud' Deppe of Grinnell; her son, Randall (Kathy) Deppe of Rock Creek Lake, IA; her daughter, Carol Clayton-Fabray of Des Moines, IA; her 5 grandchildren, Sara Clayton of Ankeny, IA, Clay Deppe of Kellogg, IA, Jacob Clayton of Cambridge, IA, Tenea and Eva Fabray of Des Moines, IA; and several nieces and nephews. Sue passed away Monday, November 10, 2008, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell after a second battle with cancer. She was 74 years of age and was preceded in death by her mother, Thelma Irene Lockhart Crowenne Boothe; and her step-father, William Clarence Boothe. Memorials may be directed to Grinnell Regional Hospice, 210 - 4th Avenue, Grinnell, IA 50112.
