Obituary

Steve was born on April 12, 1945, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, to Harvey and Ruth Olson Tindle. He was raised on the family farm south of Malcom and attended public schools in Malcom and Brooklyn. He graduated with the Class of 1963 from BGM High School and attended an auto mechanics school in Des Moines. Following his education he served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam. On September 2, 1966, he was married to Rita White in Grinnell and to this union was born one daughter, Sara. The couple lived in Grinnell, where he was employed with the Donaldson Company, Paschall Motors, Thorndyke Motors and he was recently employed with the Iowa DOT in the road maintenance department. He was married to Beth Kendall on February 14, 1992 in Newton. Steve was a member of the Eagles Club in Grinnell and he enjoyed fishing, woodworking, NASCAR and his pet dog, Magic. Survivors include his wife, Beth; his daughter Sara (John) Thompson of Grinnell; two grandsons, Jesse and Shane Thompson; and his mother, Ruth Tindle of Grinnell. He was preceded in death by his father. Memorials may be directed to the ALS Foundation and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112.
