Stephen F. Jones, 61, of Grinnell, died on Saturday, December 27, 2014, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 5, 2015, at the United Church of Christ-Congregational in Grinnell with Rev. Cameron Barr, pastor of the church and Rev. Keith Morrison, chaplain of Grinnell Regional Hospice, officiating. Organist will be Dr. William Tinker. Casket Bearers will be Curtis Allen Dean, Tony Jones, Rusty Jones, Ric Jones, Nick McCulley and John Sumner. Interment will be at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell. The Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Should friends desire, memorials may be directed to Grinnell Regional Medical Center or to the Grinnell Area Arts Council and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 368, Grinnell, IA 50112. Steve was born on Tuesday, February 24, 1953, in Pasadena, California to Addison and Marion Austin Jones. He grew up in Grinnell and graduated with the Class of 1971 from Grinnell High School. Following high school, he attended Monmouth College and later graduated from Marshalltown Community College with a degree in electronics. In 1984, he was married to Beth Ann Hook and to this union was born one daughter, Hillary. The couple lived in Marshalltown and later moved to Grinnell. Steve worked for Wilcox-Garland Furniture Store and was the night manager for the Super 8 Motel in Grinnell. Recently, he was a musician with the Rewinders Band. Steve enjoyed music, computers, chess, and operating his ham radio system. His ham radio operator call name was N0NHR. He also enjoyed being a DJ at various functions. Survivors include his daughter, Hillary Jones of Grinnell; his father, Addison Jones of Grinnell; and two brothers, David (Lori Waddle) Jones and Austin (Kim) Jones, both of Grinnell. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1996 and his mother in 2011.
