Sheryl LuAnn (Rainey) Smith was born the daughter of Harold Kenneth Rainey and Evelyn Mae (Magnusson) Rainey on Tuesday, May 4, 1943 in Malcom, Iowa. She was raised in Malcom and graduated from Brooklyn-Guernsey-Malcom High School. She was united in marriage to Jerry Lee Smith in Montezuma, Iowa. The couple lived in Seattle, Washington, where they were employed with Boeing Corporation. They returned to Malcom in 1971, and Sheryl was employed at Robintech in Grinnell and later at the Malcom Coop. Her strong work ethic and organizational skills quickly moved her up the corporate ladder in a time that women did not commonly do so. Sheryl held a strong love for her family and always looked forward to the family get-togethers during the holidays. She also loved to be outdoors, whether it was taking a walk with Jerry or tending to her garden/yard. She was an avid sports fan and her favorite team was the Iowa Hawkeyes. She held a special love for her dogs. Sheryl will be remembered for her kind, loving and gentle way, her feistiness, and her beautiful smile that could brighten anyone's day. Sheryl is survived by her daughter, Shealey (Craig) Sieck of Grinnell; two grandchildren, Megan and Lucas Sieck of Grinnell; sister, Karen Haines of (Sammamish, Washington); and one brother, Robert Rainey of San Antonio, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerry Smith on Saturday, September 11, 2010; and brother, Larry Raines.
