Sandra "Sandy" Sheets, 80, of Grinnell, died at her home at Seeland Park on Thursday, November 20, 2025.

A private family graveside service will be held at Ivy Hill Cemetery in Malcom. Online condolences may be shared with her family at www.smithfh.com. Smith Funeral Home and Crematory is providing care to Sandy's family.

Sandy was born on June 17, 1945, in Grinnell, Iowa, the daughter of Marlin Hall and Lucille Asberry. She was raised and educated in Grinnell. On March 2, 1964, she was united in marriage to Ivan Wayne Sheets in Kirksville, Missouri. Together they made their home in Grinnell and were blessed with three children: Donna, Ivan Jr., and Debbie.

A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Sandy also worked for many years at the Mayflower Community in Grinnell. She was known for her ornery sense of humor, strong will, and modest nature—qualities that endeared her to all who knew her. Sandy found joy in tending to her flowers and plants and was blessed with a true green thumb. She loved baking and sharing treats with family and friends, watching Hallmark movies and wrestling, and caring for others in her quiet, generous way.

She is survived by her daughters, Donna (Dennis) Austin of Grinnell and Debbie (Zachary McCulley) Sheets of Grinnell; her grandchildren, Jessica (Melvin) Parrott of Rock Creek Lake and their daughter, Maddie; Lisa (Quentin Adams) Austin of Charlotte, North Carolina and their daughter, Poppy; Cody (Karysa) Dudley of Grinnell and their children, Greyson and Braelynn; and Ricky (Nadine) Dudley and their daughter, Daisy; and her brother, Kenny (Susan) Hiner of Grinnell.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ivan Sheets, in 2007; and her infant son, Ivan Jr.
