Obituary

Sandy Cooper, 81, of Grinnell, died on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at Windsor Manor in Grinnell. A memorial gathering will be held from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm on Friday, July 1, 2022, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. Interment will be held at Hickory Grove Cemetery north of Grinnell. Memorials may be designated to the Poweshiek County Historical Society or to S.H.E. Counts Organization and mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112. Sandra Lee Cooper was born on October 31, 1940, to Kenneth and Mary Clifton, she also had a stepmom, Dorothy Clifton, in Grinnell, Iowa. She was raised in Grinnell and graduated from Grinnell High School in 1958. She worked at the Glove Factory in Grinnell during high school and following her education. On July 19, 1959, Sandy was united in marriage to Larry Ray Cooper at the United Methodist Church in Grinnell. The couple was blessed with four children, Kimberly, David, Randall, and Teresa. They raised their family in Grinnell and Sandy was a homemaker then later worked for Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance from 1995 to 2007. She was a Grinnell United Methodist Church member as well as the Poweshiek Historical and Genealogical Society. Sandy's hobbies included sewing, reading, traveling, and being a mom! Her children survive Sandy, Kim (Tom) Cooper of Grinnell, David (Machell) Cooper of Knoxville, IA, and Randy (Jana) Cooper of Portland, Oregon; eight grandchildren, Brent (Angie) Berger, Amanda Banks, Kylie (Ethan) Garr, Jacee (Alex) Spangenburg, Reagan (Jared) Keehn, Madison, Spencer, Deserae Cooper, Taylor and Nathan Phifer; five great-grandchildren, Brayden, Brelee and Addilyn Berger, Nia and Jocelyn Banks, Braxton Spangenburg and Isaac Everett Keehn; her brother, Thomas (Nancy) Clifton of Grinnell. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Larry Cooper; and daughter, Teresa Cooper.
