Ruth Jones, 89, of Grinnell, died on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at Cottage Grove Place in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

A service of remembrance will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. A visitation will follow the service from 1:30 pm until 4:00 pm at the Smith Funeral Home. Interment will be held privately by the family at Prairie View Cemetery in Gilman.

Ruth was born one of five children to William and Viola (Parmley) Russell on August 19, 1933 in Grinnell, IA. She attended early rural grade schools near Grinnell and graduated from Grinnell High School with the class of 1951.

Following graduation, she worked for GTE in Grinnell as a secretary. She married Brad Jones on September 11, 1955 in Grinnell. They moved to the family farm north of Grinnell, where they farmed and raised their three children, Nedra, Michele, and Scott. In 1982, they moved to Grinnell, residing on 8th Avenue for 20 years until moving to Seeland Park in Grinnell. Brad passed away in 2014, and Ruth later moved to assisted living at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell. Ruth spent her later years at Grand Living in Coralville, IA and finally at Cottage Grove in Cedar Rapids, IA.

In 1976, Ruth began working at the Brenton Bank in Grinnell, where she became a Trust Officer in 1982, enjoying her work with older clients. She retired from the bank in 2002. Ruth served on the board for Grinnell Regional Hospice for 18 years and on the Board at Seeland Park during her days there.

Ruth is survived by her two children, Michele (Scott) Jones-McLeod of Iowa City and Scott Jones of St. Louis Park, MN; her granddaughters, Brianne (Pinaki) Das of Joliet, IL, and Katie (Lance) Angstman of Marshalltown, IA; and a great granddaughter, Torvi Angstman of Marshalltown. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Brad Jones; her daughter, Nedra Strawn; and her siblings, Mary, Maxine, Wilma, and Bob.
