Obituary

Ruth Dalldorf, 79 of Grinnell died on January 17, 2020, at the Grinnell Health Care Center. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 21st, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Grinnell with Pastor Muriel Johnnessen, St. John's Lutheran Church, officiating. Pianist will be Cheryl Irland accompanied by Lea Ann Dalldorf, violinist and Roger Henderson, vocalist. Pallbearers are Lee, Dylan and Jordan Ritter, Melvin and Chad Beck, and Roger Henderson. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell. Visitation with the family present will be held two hours, 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., prior to the funeral service at the church. Memorial contributions may be designated to St. John's Lutheran Church or to the National Kidney Foundation. Ruth was born on June 15, 1940, in Eldora, the daughter of Carl William and Clara Anna Steinfeldt Schultz. She was raised in Eldora and was a 1958 graduate of Eldora High School. She was employed at the Harden County Court House and later with the Eldora school system assisting in the Superintendent's office. On March 16, 1963, she was united in marriage to Kenneth H. Dalldorf, in Eldora. A union of 56 years! The couple lived in State Center and Hartley prior to moving to Grinnell in 1973. Ruth was employed as a saleswoman with Avon Company and later as a sales clerk at the Sears Catalog Store and Rainbows End downtown Grinnell. Prior to her retirement, she worked as an activity assistant at the Mayflower Community in Grinnell. She was an active member at St. John's Lutheran Church, teaching Sunday school and serving on several committees. Ruth considered herself as a decorative artist; she kept a meticulous home and was good in the kitchen. Her passions included oil painting, reading, and sewing. She enjoyed tending to her vegetable garden and canning her produce. Most importantly, was her love and care for her family. Survivors include her husband, Ken of Grinnell, two daughters, Lea Ann Dalldorf of Pleasant Hill, Missouri and Karen (Lee) Ritter of Grinnell; three grandchildren, Crystal Dalldorf, and Dylan, and Jordan Ritter; and three sisters, Mary Ann Cretin of Corvallis, Oregon, Carol Jean (Larry) Noyes of Kansas City, Missouri, and Ann Schroeder of Eldora. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, Dennis Schroeder.
