Rudy Hoffa of Deep River, IA died on April 4, 2022 at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, IA, at the age of 73.
A funeral service is scheduled for 10:00 AM, Saturday, April 9th at the Victor American Legion. Burial with military honors will be held at Winslow Cemetery, Chelsea, IA. A luncheon will be held at the Victor American Legion following the burial.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM, Friday, April 8th at the Victor American Legion.
Memorials may be designated to the Victor American Legion, Post 54 or to the Deep River Volunteer Fire Department and First Responders, mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 485, Victor, IA 52347.
Rudy Lane Hoffa was born February 24, 1949 in Aurora, Illinois, the son of Iver Henry and Harriett (Frisk) Hoffa. Raised in Chelsea and Belle Plaine, IA, he graduated from Belle Plaine High school in 1967. Following high school, Rudy enlisted in the U.S. Navy and honorably served from 1968 until 1972.
Rudy was united in marriage to Peggy Scheel on August 24, 1977 in Center Point, IA. He was employed as a well driller, milk truck driver, and machine operator for Victor Manufacturing and later Benco Manufacturing. In retirement Rudy and Peggy moved to Missouri from 2010 to 2016 before moving back to their current residence in Deep River to be closer to family. Rudy was a member of the Victor American Legion and former member of the Belle Plaine American Legion.
Rudy was an outdoorsman; he enjoyed camping, fishing, arrowhead hunting, mushroom hunting, exploring, horseback riding, and four-wheeling. He spent much of his time tinkering in his shop and being with family. He enjoyed grilling and bonfires with friends and family. Rudy will be remembered for his constant smile and willingness to help anyone.
Those left to cherish Rudy's memory are his wife, Peggy Hoffa of Deep River; children, Adam (Brittney) Hoffa of Victor and Traci (John) Malecek of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Ellie, Libbie, and Molly Malecek; brother and sister in laws, Carol (Gary) Dundee, Jan Rachuy, Cindy (Craig) Pattee, Terri (Kenny) Andorf, Randy (Teresa) Scheel; immediate nephews Jon (Maggie) Hoffa and Jeff (Erin) Hoffa and families; and many more nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Iver Henry and Harriett Hoffa; siblings, John Hoffa and wife Nancy, Mary Harberts and Katie Arnold; brother-in-law Daryl Rachuy; nephew Brad Rachuy; and Danial Schellhase.
