Obituary

Ronald Eugene Moyer, 57, of Grinnell, died on Friday, July 31, 2015, at his parent's home in Grinnell. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 4, 2015, at the Grinnell Christian Church with Rev. John Epperson of Grinnell officiating. Honorary bearers will be Butch Holcomb, Greg Muckler, Jim Buffum, Dwaine Elliott, Bill Moyer, Doug Moyer, Laura Elliott, Eric Moyer, Neath Castillo, Justin Holcomb and Nathan Sparks. A private family burial will be held at Prairie View Cemetery in Gilman Visitation with the family present will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. Memorials may be directed to Grinnell Regional Hospice. Ron was born March 29, 1958, in Grinnell, the son of Harold "Pee Wee" and Beverly Green Moyer. He was raised in Grinnell and was a 1976 graduate of Grinnell High School. On November 3, 1979, he was united in marriage with Rhonda Dixon in Grinnell. They were married for 17 years before their marriage ended in divorce. Following his education he was employed at Deep Rock service station in Grinnell and drove a catering truck for the Koffee Shoppee. He was employed for 24 years as an operations manager at Van Wyk Trucking in Grinnell and later as a dispatcher for Wehrle Trucking Company in Lynnville. He retired in February of this year. Ron held a love for his family and enjoyed being a grandfather to his two granddaughters. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, golfing and riding his Harley Davidson. He held a passion for bowling and had bowled six 300 games, one 800 series and had appeared on WHO television "Let's Go Bowling" multiple times. He was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, Green Bay Packers, St. Louis Cardinals and Jeff Gordon. Survivors include his two children, Eric (Heidi Evans) Moyer of Lynnville and Stephani (Neath) Castillo of Clear Lake; his parents, Harold and Beverly of Grinnell; one sister, Laura (Dwaine) Elliott of Grinnell; two brothers, Doug Moyer of Grinnell and Bill (Lisa) Moyer of Indianapolis, Indiana; two granddaughters, Salarah and Sapheah Castillo of Clear Lake and Becky Carmen of Clare, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ed and Minnie Green and John and Mildred Moyer; one nephew, Lee Elliott and many aunts and uncles.
