Obituary

Roger Dean Stafford, 81, of Grinnell, and formerly of Killeen, TX, died peacefully on May 16th, 2024 at Montezuma Specialty Care in Montezuma, IA.

A private burial service will be held at a later date at Martha's Chapel Cemetery in Cunningham, TN.

Roger was born on May 23, 1942 in Pocahontas, IA to Harris Richard and Ila Jane (McDonald) Stafford. He graduated from Grinnell High School with the class of 1960. After high school, Roger enlisted in the United States Army where he faithfully served his country for 20 years, obtaining the rank of Sergeant First Class. Following his military service, Roger remained active at Fort Hood working for Morale Welfare Recreation as a civilian employee. Roger retired in Killeen, TX. After the death of his wife Nora in 2011, Roger moved back to Grinnell to be closer to family. Roger loved golf, and as a dear friend shared, he was one of the best putters and chippers he had ever seen.

Roger is survived by two brothers, Lee (Kaye) of Elizabethtown, KY and Wayne of Chandler, AZ; nephews, Patrick (Jennifer) of Guyton, GA, Phillip (Lynnette) of Tiffin, IA, Paul (Jody) of Ft. Wayne, IN, Shannon (Yuzhen) of Indianola, IA, Thad (Bonnie) of Moorhead MN, Brian (Emily) of Colorado Springs, CO; nieces, Steffani (Christopher Olson) of Sturgeon Bay, WI, Stacy Nelson (Jeff) of Prior Lake, MN; and their families.

The family extends a special thanks to the staff of Windsor Manor, Montezuma Specialty Care and Care Initiatives Hospice for their exceptional care and compassion towards the end of Roger's earthly life.
