Roger D. Haines, 57, of Grinnell died February 23, 2004, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 26, 2004, at the Smith Funeral Home with Pastor Troy Stein, First Assembly of God Church, officiating. Pallbearers will be Chuck Anderson, David and Duane Blagden, Mike Driskell, Billy and Jimmy Haines, Dean Kriegel, and Richard Lemke. Honorary bearers will be D.J. Griggs, Ricky Roy, Victor, Roger, Cortney, and Mariah Haines. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery. The son of Ralph Ival Charles and Dorothy Viola Lemke Haines, Roger was born March 18, 1946, in Grinnell. He was raised in the Grinnell and Newton areas and attended school in both the Grinnell and Newton School Districts. Roger was united in marriage to Patricia Mae Bladgen on July 31, 1965, at the Assembly of God Church in Grinnell. The couple made their home in the Grinnell area prior to moving to Montour in 1968. They returned to Grinnell in 1980. He was employed for 28 years at Fisher Control in Marshalltown and retired in 1993. He was a member of the U.A.W. Local #893 in Marshalltown. Roger held a strong love for his family and enjoyed sharing his time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and particularly enjoyed drag racing, stock car racing, and riding his motorcycle. He held a passion for cooking and baking, and a favorite dish was his meatloaf. He enjoyed watching boxing, NASCAR, and baseball games, and was an avid John Wayne fan. Survivors include his wife, Patty of Grinnell; his mother Dorothy Haines of Grinnell; three daughters, DeeDee Griggs of Grinnell and Tricia and Maggie Haines of Marshalltown; one brother, Ralph Haines of Toledo; and six grandchildren, D.J. Griggs of Grinnell and Cortney, Victor, Roger, Ricky Roy, and Mariah Haines, all of Marshalltown. He was preceded in death by his father, a twin brother, Roy Haines; two sisters, Peggy and Linda Haines; and one nephew, Andy Haines.
