Roger Allen Evans, 75, of Victor, Iowa, passed away on April 3, 2025.

A private family prayer service will be held on Tuesday, April 8 at Smith Funeral Home - Victor. Following the service, public military honors will be held at 5:00 PM followed by a visitation till 7pm, on Tuesday, April 8 at Smith Funeral Home - Victor.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be designated to Roger's Family and mailed in care of Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 485, Victor, IA 52347.

Roger was born on November 10, 1949, in Grinnell, Iowa, to Richard and Mabel (Wagner) Evans. He graduated from BGM High School with the Class of 1968. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted into the United States Army and served honorably during the Vietnam War. For his bravery and dedication, he was awarded two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart.

On August 27, 1982, Roger was united in marriage to Cynthia Cunningham. Together they raised their family in Victor, where Roger became a valued member of the community. He worked as a bus driver and maintenance director for the HLV Community School District and held positions at Amana Refrigeration, Pride of Iowa as a truck driver, and Bayer during harvest seasons. He also offered handyman services throughout the area.

Roger found joy in many hobbies including woodworking, coin collecting with his son-in-law, gardening, and canning. He looked forward to weekly gatherings with friends over coffee. Roger especially loved camping and cherished the annual family reunion trips to Knoxville, Iowa. He supported Cindy at farmers markets and enjoyed road trips for ice cream and antique shopping and hunting with his sons. Family dinners and card games around the table were among his favorite pastimes.

Known for his strong work ethic and gentle nature, Roger was deeply devoted to his family. He took pride in helping his children and grandchildren whenever needed, which often times would lead to laughter and lasting memories. His sense of devotion and dedication made him a hero in their eyes.

Roger is survived by his wife, Cindy of Victor; children Crystal (Rich) Nicklaus of Ankeny, Justin (Chelsey) Evans of Victor, and Travis (Masha) Cunningham of Victor; grandchildren Dylan, Hunter, Carley, Colton, Dawson, and Kaitlyn; siblings Anna Mills of McKinney, Texas, and Marvin Evans of Guernsey, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law Tom Mills; sister-in-law Sandy Evans; and nephew Richard Irwin in infancy.
