Rod W. Baltisberger, 38, of Malcom, died Saturday, September 27, 2008 of injuries sustained in an ATV accident near his home.
Visitation will be held Thursday, October 2, 2008 with the family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 3, 2008, at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with burial immediately following at Ivy Hill Cemetery in Malcom.
The son of Jack E. and Janis K. Suess Baltisberger, Rod was born November 12, 1969, in Grinnell. He was raised on a farm near Malcom and was a 1988 graduate of Montezuma High School.
After graduation, Rod worked at several welding/fabrication companies before going to work in 1992 with his father at Baltisberger Carpentry. Rod shared his father's attention to detail and craftsmanship and had a reputation for being a perfectionist on the job.
Rod loved music and attending concerts throughout the Midwest. He enjoyed spending time with his dogs, Bandit and Tuddy, riding his mountain bike, and muddin' in his truck. Rod loved living loud and living large, he had a big, big heart and was very caring to his family and friends.
Survivors include his mother, Janis Baltisberger of Newton; two brothers, Ben (Paula) Baltisberger of Newton and Brian Baltisberger of Grinnell; one sister, Rebecca (Blake) Anderson of Keystone; five nieces and nephews, Shamus, Resa and Clayton Baltisberger of Newton and Aleah and Kane Delk of Grinnell; his grandmother, Gladys Baltisberger of Grinnell; his step-mother, Kathy Baltisberger of Malcom; one step-sister, Robin (Joe) Rios of Des Moines, two step-brothers, Jared Boisen of Montezuma and Scott Boisen of Ames; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Jack, and grandparents Ronald Baltisberger and George and Juanita Suess.
