Robert Oliver Weisskopf, 79 of Grinnell died on October 23, 2019, at UnityPoint Grinnell Regional Medical Center Emergency Room. Funeral services with military rites are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 28th at the First Presbyterian Church in Grinnell with Rev. Kirsten Klepfer officiating. Organist will be Mary Fopma. Pallbearers are Grant Deppe, Haley and William Mengler, Aaron, Noelle and Devyn Wallisch, Doug Selk, and Larry Manning. A private family burial will be held at a later date. Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, October 27th at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with the Weisskopf family present from 2:00 to 4:00 Sunday afternoon. Memorial contributions may be designated to the Robert Weisskopf Memorial Fund. Bob was born on November 13, 1939, at the family farm home in rural Ladora, the son of Lester Daniel and Grace Elizabeth Byerly Weisskopf. He grew up in the Guernsey area and was a 1958 graduate of Guernsey High School. Upon graduation, he was employed at Amana Refrigeration for several years. Bob entered the United States Air Force in 1961 and was discharged in 1965, having served during the Vietnam War. He was stationed at Chanute Air Force Base in Champaign County, Illinois. On June 15, 1963, he was united in marriage with Carolyn Leigh Arvidson, at the First Presbyterian Church in Brooklyn. The couple lived in Brooklyn and later moved to Grinnell in 1977. Bob worked as a farmhand for Ross Wylie for nine years and later for the Poweshiek County Road Maintenance. In 1985, he partnered with Larry Manning and together they owned and operated Bob and Larry's Body Shop in Grinnell. Bob sold his half in 1997 and he was then employed with Grinnell Mutual Re-Insurance Company. He retired from there in 2007. Bob was a loving husband, father and grandfather and was very devoted to his family. He enjoyed along with his family, camping, campfires, and fishing. He was a genuine person, well-liked by his many friends and he never knew a stranger. He loved to have fun! He enjoyed working on and restoring cars and held a keen interest in Ford Mustangs. He was a member of a Mustang car club and loved attending car shows. He was a fan of the Chicago Cub and Iowa Hawkeyes. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Brooklyn and later Grinnell, and the Francis Gallagher American Legion Pot # 294 in Brooklyn. Survivors include his wife, Carol of Grinnell; three daughters, Tammy (Grant) Deppe of Victor, Dawn Nancy Williams of Ankeny, and Amanda (Aaron) Wallisch of Oregon, Wisconsin; four grandchildren, Dustin (Abbey) Deppe of Pella, Haley (Will) Mengler of Kasson, Minnesota, and Noelle and Devyn Wallisch of Oregon, Wisconsin; and three siblings, Marilyn Weisskopf of Newton, Ronald (Gilda) Weisskopf of Grinnell, and Joyce (Kim) Keiser of Marengo. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law, Danny Williams.
