raised in Chariton and graduated from Chariton High School with the class of 1959. Bob was enrolled for
two years at Iowa State University before marrying his high school sweetheart, Sandy Lyman. They were
united in marriage on June 25, 1961 in Chariton. The couple moved to Des Moines, where Bob earned a
business degree from Drake University in 1966.
Bob started his accounting career with the firm of Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. in Des Moines. In 1968
he was hired by Grinnell College where he worked for 24 years, serving as the Treasurer for the final 22

Casino in Tama, retiring in 2017.
Bob and Sandy raised their three children, Steve, Shari and Staci in Grinnell. They were active members
of their community and spent many years following their children's sports teams and other activities.
Bob loved playing golf, all types of cards and was part of many card clubs. He always enjoyed spending
time with his family and friends and of course following his Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs. Some of
his favorite memories were family vacations, the many husband/wife golf tournaments he and Sandy
played in, and the many years of Hawkeye football games and tailgates.
Bob and Sandy moved to North Liberty in the fall of 2020 where Bob continued his love of puzzles,
bingo, and spending time with family.
