Robert D. Innis, 73, of Grinnell, passed away peacefully, on October 4, 2021, at his home of natural causes.
A celebration of life service will be held at a date yet to be determined.

Bob was born on July 13, 1948, in Marshalltown, the son of Russell Eugene and Floreene Alva Swearingen Innis. He was raised in Marshalltown and later moved to Grinnell, where he received his education in the Grinnell School District. He enlisted in the United States Navy following high school and served on the USS King during the Vietnam War. Upon discharge, he returned to Iowa to live and work.
Bob lived in several communities in Jasper, Marshall, and Poweshiek Counties and was employed several construction companies and other lines of work. He returned to Grinnell on July 5, 2020.
Bob's work was his hobby, he was a good handyman and craftsman. He was always eager to help others with various projects and they knew he could get the job done. He also enjoyed watching western movies and television show reruns from the 1960's, '70's, and '80's.
Survivors include a brother and sister, Ken Innis of Havelock, North Carolina and Doretta Costello of Teaneck, New Jersey; a brother-in-law, Steve Kirby of Grinnell; a nephew, Donnie Ellis, Sr. of Grinnell; a very good friend, Terry Turner of Grinnell; and many other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; and five siblings, Bud and Billy Innis, Hazel Draegert, Bessie Draegert, and Ruth Kirby.
