Rev. Robert Grant Anderson, 90, beloved husband, father, brother, and Papa, of Grinnell, IA died on Friday, March 21, 2025, at UnityPoint – Grinnell Regional Medical Center.
A Celebration of Bob's Life will be held 1:00 PM, Saturday, July 5, 2025 at Grinnell UCC Congregational.
Bob was born in Burlington, Iowa, on June 9, 1934. He was the son of Raymond and Frances Anderson. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1952, Elmhurst College in 1956 and Eden Theological Seminary, Webster Groves, MO in 1959. He was ordained as a Pastor in the United Church of Christ. He served congregations in Tulare, SD, St. Cloud, MN, Elburn, IL and was the Pastoral Administrator at United Church Residences in Downers Grove, IL. Bob was united in marriage for nearly 67 years to Dorothy (Dot) Suhre, on July 26, 1958, in Alhambra, IL. They were blessed with two children, Terry and Heidi.
He was a member of the Grinnell United Church of Christ and was a resident of Mayflower Community. He enjoyed spending time with his family, attending sporting events, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs, and his grandchildren's activities, and working on many stained-glass projects. He will be remembered for his love of Sterzings potato chips, ice cream, and outdoor cooking. Bob and Dot enjoyed traveling the world visiting the home countries of the many foreign exchange students that they hosted through the years.
He is survived by his wife Dot, son Terry (Terri) Anderson, daughter Heidi Roberts of Fenton, MI, five grandchildren, Zack (Kimberly) Anderson, Amy (Dan) Kawa, Caitlin (Rian) Tatarcuk, Kelly (Josh) Ridenour, and Andrew (Naomi) Roberts, and seven great-grandchildren, Presley and Asher Anderson, Beckett and Cole Tatarcuk, Emerson and Caden Ridenour, and Miles Kawa, and his brother Richard Anderson.
He was predeceased by his parents, brother, Donald Anderson, and son-in-law, Tom Roberts.
Smith Funeral Home is assisting with cremation services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be designated to Emmaus Homes or Mayflower Human Needs Fund. Memorials may be mailed in care of Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, IA 50112.
