Obituary

Rick Stahl, 65, of Grinnell, died on Sunday, January 29, 2017, at his home with his wife by his side. As per his wishes, he was cremated and scattered. There will be a gathering in his honor at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Rick Stahl Memorial Fund and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112. Rickie Lee Stahl was born on January 28, 1952, in Sumner, Iowa. He was the third of eight children born to Richard and Elda (Borchert) Stahl. He was raised in the Sumner area and graduated from West Maynard High School. Rick worked mostly on the farm and enjoyed doing so. Later he would work for Priority Plastics and Monsanto. He had a very large collection of John Deere Tractors and always wanted to travel. It wasn't until he met Sheila that the traveling started. The couple were married on August 12, 2005, in Brooklyn, Iowa. On their honeymoon they traveled to the John Deere Museum in Moline, Illinois. They went to Missouri and Texas to visit family and friends. His favorite trip was to South Dakota. Rick loved the scenery and seeing Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse and seeing Big Bear country. Rick will be remembered by his wife, Sheila, of Grinnell; his siblings, Kathryn Morrison, Mary Allison, Alice (Roger) Anderson, JoAnn (Wayne) Sadler and Richard Stahl Jr., all of Grinnell; several nieces and nephews; his beloved pets and his Hardee's coffee group. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Thelma Marie and Sheila Marie Stahl.
