Rick Dudley, 35, of Grinnell, died December 27, 2008, due to injuries sustained in an auto accident near Searsboro.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2009, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with the Rev. John Epperson, pastor of the Grinnell Christian Church, officiating. Pallbearers will be John Beason, Steve Burdell, Tim Carnes, Andy Davis, Jamie Dudley, Chris Fisher, Dustin Muscha, and Junior Norris. Honorary bearers will be Matt Carnes, Ryan Davis, Don Doyle, Don Doyle, Jr., Chad Fisher, Mike Nevitt, Josh Sadler, and Jeremy Shuey. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Smith Funeral Home and where the family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00 Friday evening.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Rick Dudley Memorial Fund.
Rick was born July 16, 1973, in Grinnell, Iowa, the son of Rick Davis and Mary DeBonte Dudley. He was raised in Grinnell by David and Mary Dudley and received his education in the Grinnell School District.
Rick enjoyed construction work and for several years was employed with Rhinehart Construction in Victor and then with Griffith Masonry in Grinnell. He later was employed at Main Street Furniture in Grinnell and most recently with Joe's Bar and Grill in Searsboro. He was also active with snow removal with his boys in the Grinnell area.
Rick loved the outdoors, riding his motorcycle, fishing, deer hunting, and camping. He was very devoted and protective of his family and was a loyal friend to many. He was a Good Samaritan with a heart of gold. He loved Chinese food, his morning coffee time with friends, and attending wrestling meets.
Survivors include his life-long companion, Debbie Sheets of Grinnell; four sons, Cody and Ricky Dudley of Grinnell, and Jacob Lacy and Jessie Dudley, of Grinnell; his mother and father, David and Mary Dudley of Grinnell; four sisters, Annette (Tim) Carnes and Angela (Andy) Davis of Grinnell, Becky Johnson of Lynnville, and Monica Schutterle of Newton; and two brothers, Jamie Dudley of Cedar Rapids and Chris Wonders of Grinnell. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charlie and Amy DeBonte, LeRoy Dudley and Erma and Vern Davis; his father-in-law, Ivan Sheets; and a nephew, Brandon Carnes.
