Rick D. Butler, age 54, of Grinnell, died on Thursday, March 20, 2014, in Grinnell.
A private family service will be held Thursday, March 27th at Ivy Hill Cemetery in Malcom. A reception will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 27th at the Grinnell Eagles Club.
Memorials may be designated to the Rick Butler Memorial Fund, mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112.
Richard Dean Butler was born the son of Dale and Mary (Long) Butler on May 24, 1959, in Grinnell, Iowa. He was raised and educated in Grinnell. Following his education, he moved to Bay City, Texas and returned to Grinnell shortly thereafter.
Rick was united in marriage to Anna Bullers on October 18, 1988, in Grinnell and to this union two daughters were born, Kaitlynn and Whitney. Their marriage later ended in divorce. Rick lived in Grinnell and worked at H&W Brand, Jeld-Wen Windows, VandeStouwe Construction, and GPC Construction in Grinnell.
Rick was an outdoorsman who loved riding four wheelers, fishing, and grilling. He dearly loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed watching old western movies and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Rick is survived by his daughters, Kaitlynn Butler and Whitney Butler, both of Grinnell; brothers, Mike Butler of Grinnell, Brad (Jo) Parmley of Grinnell; 2 grandchildren; nieces and nephews, Megan Chapman of Brooklyn, Iowa, Dylan Sheets of Grinnell, and Jordan Butler of Altoona, Iowa; step-brother, Chris (Rie) Parmley of Omaha, Nebraska; and step-sisters, Sylvia Parmley of Phoenix, Arizona, Val (Mark) Levington of Tucson, Arizona, and Lisa (Dave) Parmley of Council Bluffs, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dale Butler and Mary Parmley; his step-father, Tom Parmley; and his brother, Randy Butler.
