Richard Dean Price, 72, of Grinnell and formerly of Oelwein, died March 28, 2015, at the Mayflower Community Health Care Center in Grinnell. A memorial service has been scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 4, at the Grace Community Church in Grinnell with the Rev. Rick Magstadt officiating. Organist will be Kent Kastendick. Burial will be in the Elmwood Park Cemetery in River Grove, Illinois. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Grace Community Church. Richard was born February 10, 1943, at his family home in Brooklyn, Iowa, the son of Roland and Naomi Norris Price. He was raised in Brooklyn prior to moving to Severy, Kansas where he helped his parents run a gas station and café. He returned to Iowa in 1954 with his parents to a farm near Central City and he learned how to be a farmer working with his dad. He was a 1961 graduate of Central City High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army for two years during the Vietnam conflict and was stationed in Germany near the Black Forest. After his discharge in 1966, he attended DeVry Institute of Technology in Chicago and studied computer science for several years and then was employed with Collins Radio and later Burroughs Corporation in Cedar Rapids. His position with Burroughs eventually transferred him to Oelwein. Richard met Marion Yurchik while he was going to school in Chicago and they were later married on June 20, 1970, in Chicago. In 1979, he opened an office supply store in Oelwein named Rite Price. He also did some repair on small equipment such as adding machines, typewriters, cash registers and Amish adding machines. He sold the store in 1995. After he retired, they moved to Grinnell to be closer to some family members. While living there he had some great adventures and enjoyed trying new things. He loved gardening and helping others with various projects. He was a good handyman and a very attentive husband. He enjoyed helping Marion with her bead work and they spent many years singing together and entertaining others. They were a good team! Survivors include his wife, Marion of Grinnell; three brothers, Jerry Price of Lawton, Oklahoma, Don Price of Cedar Rapids and Larry Price of Oelwein; three sisters, Milly Chard of Wichita, Kansas, Marjorie Topping of Aurora, Colorado and Jane Farris of Cedar Rapids; many nieces and nephews; and their pet, Ricky, a Blue Front Amazon Parrot. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bob and Henry Price and one sister, Margaret Ann Price.
