Richard Allen Pearce, 87, of Grinnell died on February 15, 2022, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell. A celebration of life service is pending. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. John's Lutheran Church or UnityPoint Grinnell Regional Medical Center and mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, IA 50112. Dick was born June 24, 1934, in Hawkeye, IA to Clifford and Doris (Mabb) Pearce. He graduated from Riceville High School in 1953 and attended the University of Iowa. Dick returned to Riceville to open Dick's Fine Clothing, thus beginning his lifelong career in retail apparel. As a traveling salesman he sold Cresco outerwear and Wolverine and Hush Puppies boots. In 1970 he opened and operated Carasal Fabrics in Grinnell until retiring to Payson, AZ in 1984. Dick returned to Grinnell to operate Hamman's Apparel and Dori's Apparel with his daughter until 2011. Dick was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church, Grinnell Elks Lodge and Grinnell Vintage Auto Club. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan and enjoyed watching the football and basketball teams. He enjoyed golfing and trout fishing. Dick is survived by his children, grandchildren, and one sister Diane Fischer. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Donald, and infant son Cary.
